Profile- rudra lal mulmi
Mr. Rudra Lal Mulmi was born 85 years ago in Kobahal Tole of Lalitpur, Nepal, to father Bekha Lal Mulmi and mother Bhakti Kumari Mulmi. Reared and cared by parents who were very religious and spiritually inclined, the feeling of benevolence was inculcated in Mr. Mulmi since childhood due to family culture and environment.
As a saying goes in Sanskrit "Satsangati katham kim na karoti punyam" meaning good acquaintance inspires virtuous act, the good friendship and inspiration from the noble men like Tulsi Meher Shrestha known as Nepal's Gandhi and famous politician Tulsi Lal Amatya nurtured feeling for social service in Mr. Mulmi. He then dedicated himself towards social work internalizing the philosophy "service is the only religion". Born to a common family, Rudra Lal Mulmi was further influenced by the sacrifice of the martyrs who gave their lives to fight the contemporary tyrannical Rana regime and was strongly determined to do something for the country. He even got involved in the movement against the autocratic rule during that time.
He was arrested in August 1947 along with Tulsi Meher Shrestha and Tulsi Lal Amatya but was released due to young age. After his release, he acted as a liaison to maintain communication between the democracy activists of Nepal and Mahatma Gandhi in India. He even visited Mahatma Gandhi to deliver confidential messages from Tulsi Meher. During the first municipality election in 2004 B.S. (1947 AD) he was elected as representative. He worked relentlessly for awareness raising and social upliftment by getting actively involved in development construction works at local level such as building prayer hall, school, library, and reading rooms. Besides being the founder member of various schools and libraries such as Adarsha Saral Vidhyalaya, Adarsha Kanya Niketan, Sharada Library, etc. he also successfully worked as the secretary of Tri Padma Vidhyashram and Lalitpur Highway Construction Committee.
After the historical changes in 2007 B.S. (1950 AD), he founded a volunteer group called "Shanti Sewak Sangh" to work against the forces active to stifle pro-democracy movement. He made significant contributions through this security group.
